Microsoft Preps Windows XP SP3
Microsoft release Windows XP in October of 2001. It wasn’t until September of the next year that Microsoft release Windows XP SP1. This was a minor update compared to the release of Windows XP SP2 in 2004. Service Pack 2 came with many new improvements, especially in the area of security and wireless internet. Windows XP has laid dormant, besides bug fixes and patches for the past 3+ years, mainly because of the new operating system, Windows Vista, that came out in January of 2007. Windows XP Service Pack 3 will not feature any big feature updates like in Service Pack 2, but will contain a roll up of all those many patches that Microsoft has released for Windows XP. No more of going to Windows Update and seeing 100’s of updates and restarting multiple times. Pre-versions of SP3 have been out for a few months now, but the release of SP3 to the general public is coming in just a few weeks. It will come first as a download from the Microsoft website, then will become part of Windows Update sometime in June 2008. The download will be released by Microsoft to the general public next Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Be sure to check out Microsoft’s Download Center in the next coming week for the download.
